DIY: Transmission Fluid Change

Manual Transmission (GS6-37BZ / Getrag S6S 420G)

Parts Needed

• 1.5 liters MTF-LT-2 (or Redline MT-90)

Procedure

1. Raise vehicle, place on jack stands
2. Remove fill plug (side, 14mm Allen)
3. Remove drain plug (bottom, 14mm Allen)
4. Drain completely
5. Reinstall drain plug — 50 Nm
6. Pump fluid through fill hole until it runs out
7. Reinstall fill plug — 50 Nm

Automatic Transmission (ZF 5HP19 / GM 5L40-E)

Parts Needed

• ZF: 4.0 liters ATF Esso LT 71141 (drain and fill)
• Filter kit with pan gasket (24 11 7 571 227)

Procedure

1. Raise vehicle on jack stands
2. Place large drain pan under transmission
3. Remove pan bolts carefully (fluid will pour out)
4. Remove pan, remove old filter
5. Clean pan and magnet
6. Install new filter and gasket
7. Reinstall pan — 10 Nm
8. Fill with ATF through fill tube
9. Check level at 38°C (100°F) — fluid should be at fill plug level
