Steering Wheel
Section titled “Steering Wheel”The E46 came with several steering wheel options from factory, and many owners upgrade to M-Sport or aftermarket wheels.
Factory Options
Section titled “Factory Options”- Standard 3-spoke: Base model, non-M
- M-Sport 3-spoke: Thicker rim, M-stitching, thumb rests
- Multifunction: With audio/phone controls (some trims)
Steering Wheel Removal
Section titled “Steering Wheel Removal”WARNING: Disconnect battery and wait 10+ minutes before working on steering wheel (airbag).
- Disconnect negative battery terminal
- Wait at least 10 minutes for airbag capacitor discharge
- Insert Allen key into airbag release holes (behind wheel)
- Carefully remove airbag module
- Disconnect airbag connector
- Remove center bolt (63 Nm)
- Mark position and pull wheel off splines
- Installation is reverse — torque center bolt to 63 Nm
